"The concepts of this Course
hands-on introduce a person to the reality that we are indeed all connected and at many different levels. This connection is not just simply poetic but literal in the sense of our interdependence with our natural world. We learn that we are not merely spectators on planet Earth, we learn to know who we are and gain self-esteem as active participants of life and its expression. This strengthens our natural self-identity and esteem.Through repeatable and teachable sensory activities with natural systems, just like nature-oriented cultures whose life rhythms are parallel to those of nature itself, this course gives us the confidence to find and listen to our greater internal rhythms so we may live in a sustainable way, responsibly, authentically, and from a loving space.
Here we discover how and why without the nurturing support of the natural world, we often feel alienated, traumatized and distrustful of the world around us. We explore how we harbor many psychological wounds that shut down our innate ability to fully engage with the world at large and thereby know who we are. The reconnecting with nature process is a powerful way to heal those wounds. We learn to use a career education tool that helps us support and nurture ourselves in the here and now regardless of our past. In a few weeks we became more responsible citizens of the Earth and empowered ourselves to encourage an attitude of caring and respect in those whose lives we touch.
I noted that exercises that spoke to me in the course helped all of us:
- perceive our environment at a non-label level,
- ask for consent or permission from a natural area to be there,
- recognize the extraordinary contribution to life that our lives make,
- become aware of natural attractions as central in nature,
- be conscious of our 53 natural senses instead of the typical five.
I loved that many of the exercises stated, "now create a moment that lets earth teach you," within the instructions and then showed us how to accomplish this.
This course rewarded all of us by helping us let natural sensations and feelings guide us to recognize that trusting and belonging are part of the way that nature speaks to us that validates our senses and experiences. It became obvious how and why nature produces no garbage.
Most significant was the sharing that occurred between the participants of this course. We first-hand lived "I sense, therefore I am." I felt a lot of support and validation for the fact that the world participates with us through our awareness of our body. We saw the effects people coming together from either a place of attraction, dignity and respect or from abuse, violence and distrust. I discovered our well-being really depends upon the level to which we participate in genuinely connecting our thinking to the grace, balance and regenerative ways of the natural world within and around us."
