A SOLUTION FOR OUR DISCONNECTION PROBLEMSAn Organic Psychology Report from an Online Course Participant
The main attraction that this Applied Ecopsychology "orientation" course entitled "Psychological Elements of Global Citizenship" gives to me is to grow increased awareness and security feelings. A person must be made aware of the disconnection in his life and its results, before he can realize the dysfunctions in his life, before he can realize the discourse that this disconnect causes and before anyone can attempt to repair the damage done. Learning Organic Psychology, the organic application of Ecopsychology is learning to heal yourself as you grow secure heal the world.
This Applied Ecopsychology is a combined learning and healing process created to make all persons aware of a problem that affects all, that damages our lives and damages nature and yet few are aware of it. Applied Ecopsychology has been devised to make persons aware of the critical problem that exists in modern mankind, a problem that developed because modern man has through the ages, disconnected himself from nature and this disconnection has created troubles in man's psyche. This organic course, Applied Ecopsychology not only makes us aware of the problem, it also gives us the solution to this problem and it will heal the damage done. Applied Ecopsychology is easily understood and is within the comprehension and feel of all peoples.When I first read about Ecopsychology, I felt uncertain what the course would grow into and what would result. The term Ecopsychology, to me sounded like a course combining ecology and psychology but I was expecting a marriage of the conventional psychology and the conventional ecology theories. I hardly expected to receive the knowledge and healing that I have received with this course which actually is an organic application of Ecopsychology.
I am like many other medical personnel who are in service to mankind, so I was hoping that the Ecopsychology course would reveal to me another theory on how to help my patients by learning a new psychology theory. I never realized that I might be part of the problems we face and that I might need Ecopsychology as much as others might.
When I read my first assignment, I was hesitant, not secure, to accept this theory having been trained in conventional medicine and conventional psychiatric theories. But because I also have received medical training in nontraditional medicine and because I do not believe that western medicine is the only acceptable form of healing modalities; I was willing to give Ecopsychology a trial.
I could accept the premise that man was disconnected from nature. This is almost a prima fascia statement. I have been especially encouraged with all the accompanying statements from other experts in multiple scientific fields that reinforced the argument of man being separated or disconnected from nature. After reading the names of the experts that supported Dr Cohen's theory, I needed no further proof of this statement. But did the fact that man was disconnected from nature actually cause physical and psychological problems? I needed proof of this second statement. I completed all the assignments, trying to stick to the assignment requirements as close as I possibly could. It was to my amazement that I felt so well, so soon after completing the first assignment. After completing several assignments, I was satisfied that this was a reproducible result.
My next question to myself, was, "Did I actually experience this or was I being influenced by an indirect suggestion as a guided imagery or auto-hypnosis?" I read my experiences and compared them to the results obtain by previous students and found them to be almost identical and my experiences were noted prior to me reading the former students results, thereby eliminating the chance of auto-suggestion. While the results and my analysis of the results, are not as valid as a double blind study, the results are sufficient; that I can accept them as valid and reproducible and since I can accept them as valid I would not hesitate to recommend this organic Applied Ecopsychology called "Organic Psychology" as the healing modality for being disconnected to nature..
The third statement that I needed to prove to myself was "Can Organic Psychology repair the damage done by man's disconnection with nature?" I was very much surprised as how soon my own body grew as it experienced the benefits of Organic Psychology. The results were immediate, and the results were reproduced with every learning assignment. I did not have to learn how to alter my mental state or learn any complicated meditation routine such as is required for self hypnosis or guided imagery, Sufi medication or Buddhist mediation. It did not require any special uniform or equipment such as is required for Chi Gong, Tai chi or Yoga. It did not require a special workout room or equipment as is required when a runner gets an endorphin high with prolong exercise program. Yet the results were very similar in my specific case and similar when I read the results of prior students.
All students, new and prior, including myself have described a sensation of feeling connected, feeling secure and complete. We have generally expressed acknowledgement of some positive change in our psyche and well being when exposed to the organic NSTP process of Ecopsychology. Increased awareness and healing are the most important parts of this course to me.
Nothing can progress until a person is made aware that as a modern individual, he or she is most likely disconnected from nature. I am secure that there are still some persons at this date that are living connected to nature. There are probably some natives in South America rain forests, or living on some of the more remote pacific islands, or in the Canada wilderness or Russian tundra that still have a good connection with nature. But with the advancement of civilization, as we call it, the number of people still connected to nature are being quickly reduced. Without awareness of our disconnection, we can not be aware of the affect it has on our lives, on the lives of others and the affect on nature. With out awareness of problem, we are unaware of the simple solution to repairing the problem caused by being disconnected.
The healing, I feel is an important part of this course. It is not limited to a specific race, a specific gender, or specific religion. Organic Psychology does not require you to change your religious, spiritual or psychological beliefs. There is no complicated chemical, physical or supernatural formulas or theories to learn in order for the healing to occur.
