The
ECHN Challenge Exam: Ecopsychology with Attitude
The dialog, below, is a conversation that continues the Challenge Exam
description at http://www.ecopsych.com/eco700.html
It will help you further understand the "challenge" in Challenge Exams
as they apply to the NAE educating, counseling and healing with nature
process.
STUDENT:
I've
read through and understand eco700.html Can you send me more specific instructions for what I need to complete my exam?
FACULTY:
As a reader of your challenge exam I am one of the individuals who will
determine how many credits for how many hours of learning will be
awarded to you life and professional experience and training in the 700
series of courses. Your challenge is to convince me that you have
achieved them and deserve the credit.
Please, kindly,
consider me to be the "authority" in this setting. Any strategies
that you might use in designing other petitions to other authorities may work here, with me, as
well. (Google "how to write a petition," if you think it will
help you.)
The challenge exam rests almost entirely on you
persuasive abilities and their development. They produce your
argument for credit, in a petition, that shows that you deserve credit
for adding NSTP to specific experiences, classes, etc. The
validity and persuasiveness of that arguement about
what we use to determine the viability of your request for equivalence
credit. If and when we request them, you can submit physical
copies of documentations, when they are available.
What we need
from you is mini email petitions, that you design, to convince me
that you have at least 45 hours/credit of a learning, or well-being
contribution experience in some appropriate area. This would be an area
were you believe you could have helped improve by adding
NSTP/NAE/Organic Psychology to it (or that you did, in fact, accomplish
this.)
Your petitions will demonstrate that you would have accomplished this
this if:
1) at the time, if you had the NAE training you now have,
2) that you now know how and could do it and
3) in the future you will further know how and will do it more in areas
where you develop influence.
The more you document this, or can convince me you can document that
the above is true, the stronger is your petition.
You need to petition for the credits you need to fill the ECO 700 series
of courses described at http://www.ecopsych.com/eco700.html
Each successful mini- petition will become part of your portfolio of
petitions for each broad 700 course topic.
Your challenge is to erase doubts in my/our mind that you have not done the above
for the number of hours you say you have done it. That
enables me
to agree that you've done it and certify to the Cooperating University
that you have done it.
If you do your job well, I'll do the same when I, in turn, "petition"
the University with your transcript and its documentation.
This
is obviously mostly a game since I already trust that you have done
what you say you have done and far more. Otherwise where would you have
gotten the unique consciousness and wisdom to choose to study and
achieve in the remote but critically important field of Natural
Attraction Ecology (described in detail at http://www.naturalattractionecology.com
and its links.)
In
addition I know that you can do all this because I and others have read
all your course work from day one and daily interacted with you over
these years, and we are leading experts in this discipline. (Not to
forget that we may also be the only experts in it at this
point.) In
addition, you
have been working on, or completed you comprehensive exam (at http://www.ecopsych.com/eco800.html
so you/we know you comprehend the parameters of ECHN )
This
logical and rational petitioning process, above, is the way the free
world and academia works to make reasonable change (This is especially
true if you are willing to ignore the unfair bribery, establishment
dogma and deceitful power struggle manipulation that too often
accompanies this procedure. Although we don't, we probably
should
encourage you to engage in this impropriety here. It would serve to
further acquaint you with reality in Industrial Society so we both know
you have the full scale of skills needed to succeed
<grin>. )
We can have phone conversations to conclude this process when you've
completed the challenge petitions.
You'll
find that your dissertation will be, fact by fact, based on the
petition process, above, except there you may mainly use scholarly
scientific studies to substantiate your arguments..
Have fun, be
creative, develop strategies and logically scheme like crazy so you can
be confronting if necessary. We've got to peacefully stop our stupid,
undeclared war against nature in places and humanity. This is one
opportunity to help make that happen.
STUDENT:
Thank you. I will study this and get it done soon. 752 and
753
are field studies and case studies, respectively and 791 will
be
written up for the workshops I've done, the articles I've written, and
the promotion of ECHN in my community.
FACULTY:
If you can, send me just one part of one petition to cover a few hours
of "life experience" as a sample of how you may submit the others....so
I can add to it if possible and you can consider using what I might add
or request, to the remainder of what you will do. For each course, the
university wants Portfolios containing persuasive challenge exam
results that I approve. The petition route is most effective for
this as others have to override your documentation and arguments as
well as my considered acceptance of them in my authority as Program
Director. That's the smooth transition and agreement with the
university.
I will do my
best to help you override my forthcoming critique of your past
experiences, I will attempt to outfox myself on your behalf.
STUDENT:
Here is my first part for one Petition for 752, please add, change,
whatever needed to complete. You may cut and paste, Thanks a
BUNCH! (The student submitted an excellent broad overview of
his
work, intentions, process and effects as an opening)
FACULTY:
These are called challenge exams because, usually, the faculty sets
forth a challenging list of potent questions about a certain subject,
and the student either passes or fails by answering them correctly and
thereby meeting the challenge.
The challenge exam that is
appropriate for our process is to challenge the student to design and
present a petition that makes it reasonable for the faculty to grant
the credits. Try and keep that posture in the back of your
mind. The goal would be to provide evidence and rationale to
validate the hours being requested, ie to convert all the work into
learning hours.
It's strongest if you put a Topic or Subject
title for each paragraph or objective that you offer so they are easy
to "add up" and difficult to question or get behind. Be as
authoritative as you can because your real challenge is to be
convincing. (This will be good practice for you because its
the
same thing you must accomplish in your dissertation for defending your
project)
Although you might not want to describe your overall
strategy, part of your challenge could be to design a convincing
presentation strategy that you could follow and LABEL such as
Title: ECO 7xx A petition for _______ number of credits for _______
hours of equivalent education and training.
Purpose:
Objective:
Materials/Places/Individuals involved:
Inclusive dates
Approximate hours of learning

PROCEDURE
TRAINER SAMPLE ACTIVITY
ETC
Petition for 752 Advanced Field Studies in
Ecopsychology
The
following paragraphs SUPPORT MY REQUEST FOR CREDIT WITH REFERENCE TO
field studies in NSTP, ECHN, and NAE THAT I HAVE done with Project
Nature Connect.
FACULTY:
Although
you only need 150 (actually 135 hours) total, you should assign what
you believe to the best of your ability, were the actual number of
hours spent in determining the parameters.....they don't have to be all
at once.....a few hours here teaches you one thing, a few hours a week
later teaches you something else....and you can include what was
learned or better still, the outcomes of these hours about this
"parameters" topic.
You probably have way more than the total
you need.... that just strengthens the petition that you at least
deserve the three credits although you may have earned seven.
Now
then, you can either submit all the hours here in 753 as field studies,
or can take some of them and frame them as "case studies" (for example,
the relationship with folks you mention could be seen as "case studies"
of them,) so if you don't need the hours for them
here,
place them in your 753 portfolio.
For each of these little
scenarios that you come up with for your "portfolio" for each course,
add where possible as many as the things listed as "Your learning
portfolio" at http://www.ecopsych.com/eco700.html challenge
exam.
If there are additional proofs or evidence that will or would
substantiate each scenario, add them.
If you can see how a
scenario adds or added to the topic of 791, (participation in the goals
of the webstring cooperative in mentoring others, doing
public
relations)...even if they are about your program if they also
introduced folks or helped folks with PNC or ECHN,
use, and
defend the use, if necessary, of that scenario for the 791 course,
especially if you are already overloaded with credits in any particular
course.
A few things come to my mind that may be helpful to your
thinking and your strategies on interpreting/converting your pre PNC
and PNC experiences into course learning hours.
*** "I came into
the program knowing nothing about it and I learned about it.
All
that learning (including hours on the website) is/was to help me learn
how to enable myself and others make direct contact with NNIAL to help
me increase personal, social and environmental well-being ("improve the
human condition" in University terms). I deserve credit for
every
minute of it, all I've got to do is convincingly convey that it I did
the hours, and then some."
***"I say that from my experience
there are 600 million stars in the sky...I've told you how and why I've
concluded this.....if you don't believe me, count them yourself."
***"I've
been trustable throughout the program, I've been my word. There is no
need or reason not to suddenly not trust me now since my NNIAL
relationships and goals remains consistent and are stronger."
***"You,
as a leader and facilitator have had good experiences in nature that
have shown you how nature works, so you know exactly what I'm talking
about and should give me credit for my time and learning from the truth
of my nature experience."
So what you have to do is present me
with undeniable petitions for experience credits for the 700 courses
and how can I say "No. You simply add a 5-leg interpretation
to
your 4-leg experiences and the truth of NNIAL should prevail.
Now go do the same with your life experiences, as well.
Call
me for details or questions... it works better than email.
