WALKING INTO THE SURF BAREFOOT TO FILL THE WHOLEAn Organic Psychology Report from an Online Course Participant
I was looking for something essentially "spiritual" that made sense to me. This Natural Systems Thinking Process was so essentially simple yet so profoundly moving that it fitted perfectly. As the first quote in the attractions trail says, the love of nature is an inherent connection with nature's ancient unifying essence. That feeling of belonging, the common unspoken "language" that joins together everything on earth (and in the universe) both organic and inorganic is essentially the basis of "unconditional love". It cuts through all our human "stories" and show us what life is and what is real and important.
By becoming more "aware" of sensory connections, that our "higher" brain centers filter out with their stories and promises of material rewards, we begin to appreciate ecological issues and start to nurture relationships with other people and the environment. I feel that this is the way to true happiness and fulfillment in life rather than the pursuit of monetary goals and other transient rewards.
For this assignment, the place was easily found in my mind under its proper name of Long Beach on the West coast of Vancouver Island. It was last summer and as I thought about I pictured the journey there across the Island and noticed the fact that it wasn't even a particularly nice day, in fact it was the worst day for weather we'd had on our vacation, a little rainy and overcast, and yet the scenery was still stunning.
Then I moved to the beach, in my mind and to the experience I had chosen, which was walking into the surf barefoot in the cool ocean breeze. As I imagined it I could "feel" the cold water and remembered the way it made me take a sharp intake of breath and giggle out loud as I forced my body to remain there, while my urge was to run out onto the sand and escape the coldness that was permeating me. Looking back I could imagine how I felt when I got used to the cold then stood with the waves rippling around my calves and the rough sand dragging at my feet. I knew that the sound of the crashing waves was the most wonderful thing and yet just imagining it was nowhere near as good as actually being there and hearing it for realI was also missing the smell of the salty air and its freshness on my face.
Looking out into the ocean at the huge expanse of sea and sky and the horizon stretching out completely flat and empty had made me feel small and at the same time as though the whole of me was expanding out to fill it.an intrinsic part of the whole and yet relatively insignificant, making any troubles I had seem insignificant. I knew I had felt like this and could describe it and to an extent feel it again, but the intensity was reducedyou can't bottle this and take it home
