Daily Learning, Outdoors Quest Solution Guide for Natural, Right Livelihood, Skills, Jobs and Careers. Participants' field reports help portray the process of natural attraction thinking and feeling in action A Beautiful Experience "I went into a natural setting without focusing on anything specific. I was attracted to the blue sky with crowds of clouds moving through in sections. Like a pilgrim, I was looking around for a place to sit, I could only stand as if my body was trying to touch a cloud or two. In my in hand was the 1000 years old art work and in my mind was a visualization of it as I gazed towards the sky. I was a seeker ‘digesting’ my chapter readings for this week and my visualization. I also was thinking about Rumi and the following writing: “Keep
walking, though there’s no place to get to. Don’t try to see
through the distances. That’s not for human beings. Move within, but
don’t move the way fear makes you move.”
Therefore, I stood still outdoors. I listened. I asked permission. I conversed with nature and the sky. As I was connecting to my surrounding, I was attracted to the big sky and the cloud formations as guides. I was reminded of my childhood and how, for happiness, I took the time to make angels anywhere I could. My arms and legs would be moving in unison as I lay on my back and gazed upon the clouds. Shapes would jump out. And then I would hear my mother talking about being a child victim in warn torn Germany. She was only 10 years old when the war ended in 1945. My mother talked about the connection of everything on Earth and how she saw in the sky the clouds forming two cliffs into which a big German eagle fell and she knew the war would be over soon. I like to think she had a special health and safety connection as a child to the teachings and guidance of nature. It was her link or quest for solutions and HOPE. As I watched upon the clouds here and in the ‘now’, I saw waves forming like spaced threads that rolled along a blue background. These treads touched everything on Earth and in turn returned to the sky to form a complete circuit of knowledge and nourishment. When I look at the pottery symbol from so long ago, I find the simplicity of threads, webstrings and connections. Each path in the Mimbres pottery design reflects openly back to the edge of the sphere. My soul sees truth in the shapes both in the positive and negative spaces, artistically speaking. I have never studied any of these peoples’ lives, so I hope my presentation here is taken as my subjective impressions that were given to me, as I stood calmly in peace within my natural environment . I recognized: a. individual journeys of all life, b. openness (none of the individual paths are closed off), c. a bird, a non gender identified human form, d. an outline of a frog among the feet of the bird or maybe these feet represent the outline of hands of another creature, e. Rabbit ears and the connection to life and food sources, f. that each colored path looks like a crouched figure in prayer or huddling towards the Earth, g. from left to right, that the first two bigger lines might represent both man and woman, followed by a child and as the lines get smaller perhaps the transition represents the animals or insect friends of the Earth as the lines get progressively smaller and closer to the ground, h. or maybe these outlines represent individual paths and the movement of our learning journeys on Earth from life to death, i. fluidity and the connection to water, j. scared symbols through geometry via the square and triangle, which might provide symbolic reference to tradition, culture and religion, and Finally, I see nature (human and animal) all housed within a hut with a doorway to our souls. As I continued to stand still, I could sense and feel the daily connections within me, the pottery design and nature......as well as how all life from past, present, future are all interconnected and part of a whole that is dependent upon each other, much like the Gaia hypothesis that scientifically recognizes the interactions of all the is natural within the atmospheres and that Nature requires everything to be brought back into balance. During this activity, I was attracted to the statement in chapter eight that states: "Every other part of nature survives in balance through attractions that unite, build and sustain consensual, mutually supportive relationships.” As I was looking into the mostly unpolluted huge blue skies of Montana, I was attracted to Julie’s posting about the air in Shanghai. It reminded me of one day in Ottawa, Ontario (Canada), when I was living there. I woke up to a yellowy, brown, orange tinged sky and the air all around us hung with real dirt particles. We had warnings to stay indoors period (all schools were closed) and my daughters’ dentist appointment was cancelled, because the dentist said it was enough to attempt to breathe the air without adding invasive procedures. I often think the following thought: "How will Nature correct this past and the continued onslaught of murdering our environment?" I also was attracted to this statement, “The web of life is a global ecosystem of which people are a part.” I believe we need to start developing an ecological intelligence, before it is too late. We need not deny, but recognize the truth of the extent of the pollution of our world and minds. My belief from my experiences and this course and the activities is that we need to work together to sustain life and balance in Nature. We need not be absent and ignore that which we cannot see or measure, it is all real. My drawing in Nature illustrated a communication of all that is, as my threads from my micron 01 black inked pen connected the spaced waves from that particular cloud to all that is living and that which makes up our Earth and Universe. I believe we need to move with integrity, honesty, love and commitment to reconnecting our natural selves to that which we were born into: Nature. My thought is: "The sun shines without vocabulary. The salmon has no name for the urge that drives it upstream. The newborn groping for the nipple knows hunger long before it knows a single word. Even with an entire dictionary in one's head, one eventually comes to the end of words. Then what? "Drink deep like the baby, swim like the salmon, burn like any brief star." says Scott Russell Sanders Over 1000 years later, I am able to converse with Nature through a pottery design with the ancient Mimbres people. Over many thousands/millions of years later, I am able to connect without labels and language to a part of something that is so much bigger and wiser than me: Nature. No work on my part is required, but to just show up and listen, accept and trust. Perfect balance with unconditional love. The Natural Systems Thinking Process gives us a practical means to resolve conflict and restore integrity on personal and environmental levels. This was a new type of activity for me. At first I was concerned it would feel forced but instead it opened up a creative world of nature connected imagesÖreally fun! Wishing you lots of nature connecting fun and creativity! After looking at the Mimbres Pottery Design I went for a walk around the local pond. I was attracted to several areas around the pond but there was a general quality to the experience which was present throughout. I saw many images primarily of human forms, sometimes my own form, merging with forms in nature. Looking at the trees, I saw permeable human forms superimposed on the trunks, transparent so that the forms were composed of wooden bark patterns. The images were beautiful and alive. Looking at the water I saw transparent human forms, superimposed on the water so that the human forms were water. The ducks and geese also seemed to merge with the water and air, filled with the energy of water and air. I saw similar images when I looked at various patches of earth. Transparent human forms composed of soil, grass, fallen branches and stones. These images permeated the entire landscape. I saw and felt myself merging with trees, water and earth. I felt the transparency and permeability of my own body as I merged with wood, water and earth. Human form was completely woven into the landscape. Seeing and feeling this inseparable interconnection was a beautiful experience for which I am grateful." All is One "'We
are suffering a kind of collective hypnosis, a cultural trance that
prevents us from seeing things the way they really are.'
-William Irwin Thompson
I see the truth in the quote above. I walked along the train tracks and it was warm and beautiful out and my dog was having a good time smelling everything he felt attracted to and leaving something behind for his fellow four legged to smell. I was so enjoying the sun and the clouds (I saw a saw-shark cloud and a large face cloud). My most favourite site was the spruce's green top against the blue sky. Simply gorgeous. When I picture the scene and read the quote it I realize I was oblivious to how I was prevented from going in any direction but in a straight line because someone's wisdom was to put up fences on both sides. The fish's belly image in the book says to me that we are all various sizes of the same being and every cell is made up of the same things wanting to express differently. The area's trees all expressed differently. How might I help a woman recover who must leave the closet into which she was born and raised? I would show her that nature had never left her. That her own nature was keeping her alive. She never forgot to breathe. She never forgot to have her heart beat. She digested her food without knowing how. Nature did this for her. I would show her that she can trust nature as it kept her alive in her closet. I would ask her to discover who she was without her name and once she had completed this exercise I would ask her to discover what attracts her and discover what it is without its name or label. This is a profound exercise that teaches that all is one and all in nature and that there is nature outside herself as well and in everyone. She may have difficulty finding the answers to these questions, but I would ask her to gently allow space for it in her life everyday as she explores her outside-the-closet world." Act
now.
