An Organic Psychology Report from a Utah Course Participant
I wish I had words to describe my past week. This is definitely a week to give thanks to nature.
As I mentioned in my last post our dog, Blonde had some health problems. I planned to do this activity with nature however it happened with Blonde. She has been telling me (intuitively I hear her, after 12 years we know each other well) that she was leaving. I have literally begged her to stay, unsure that I could be in this big city without her as my connection to home and nature I had this sense to take her home to Utah and I listened to her natural language. I thanked her for staying with me for so long (a year after her mate died) and off we went to Utah for the week. As the trip progressed I knew she was attracted as was I to going home to the mountains and where she had lived her life. She became weaker and weaker on the long trip and we had to lift her in and out of the car. I asked her what she wanted--she said (I know this sounds way woo woo but it is my experience) and she said she wanted to roll and lay in the grass (we have very little down here in the desert), she wanted to go home to our farm where she had lived, in Utah, she wanted to say good-bye to the babies (grandchildren) and she wanted me to lie down with her when she died.
I was so appreciative of being able to listen to her as I have learned to listen to nature. I thanked her for all she has been to me and wrote a list of all she has been. Then I redid the "we are nature" activity and could clearly see how much alike she and I are.
I have no words to describe the days from last Friday to last Monday. She did everything she wanted to do. A group of friends gathered for her farewell on Sunday night, all nature oriented people, two did Reiki on her and we celebrated in a quiet natural way her life. There were no words spoken, all was silent. We thanked her for being such a wonderful teacher about nature in our hearts. Monday morning, she made a very long climb being coaxed and because of her love for us up the hill to the driveway one last time. She had not been standing for two days before this. She looked into my eyes the entire time to the vet's office telling me I was doing the right thing (and I have never done this before). At the office surrounded by Kevin, our daughter Melissa, Sherrill-a friend I told her lie down beside me and go to sleep as we always did for 12 years. I don't have words at all to describe the connection to source, to my beloved animal, to endings in nature, to using my intellectual brain in a depth I had never imagined when I started this course.
I discovered the value of transferring these activities to other areas of our life and the gift of thanking someone who has given me so much, without words. I have decided dogs are the closest thing to God that I can find. The activities helped me listen to what she wanted, what if I had just ignored my feelings and her words.Nature communicates. When we let go of our stories, we can listen to nature-be it a tree, an animal or another with authenticity. Gratitude can be shown without words. My self-worth is enhanced because I know I listened to the pleas of an animal who had loved me and been there for me for 12 years during some of the roughest years of my life.
