Trusting Natural Senses
An Organic Psychology Report from a South Carolina Course Participant
I did this activity on the old causeway of the Sullivan's Island Bridge. In recent times, the road surface has been repaved with Eocene age fossil limestone from the Santee Formation.
I love fossils, so I received permission through a warm gust of fresh air to gather six of these chunks of rock, all of approximately the same size and shape. Closing my eyes, I used both hands to mix up and touch all of these chunks together. Then, with the relationships of touch, weight and balance, form and design, and gravity, I selected one chunk and rolled it between and in my hands. The natural attraction relationships of many senses where further triggered from the touch sensation. Contrast always seems to emerge as a tool for me, from a congress of senses. The relationship of observer/observed or sensor and sensed, is a contrast or relationship comparison tool, in my experience. Subconscious deduction seems to be subtly at work in conjunction with the other senses. Also, memory of my study of this fossil formation in Geology weaves into place with this experience.
When the harmony of senses work to embed a sensory shaped picture in my mind, I mark this chunk with a pencil---eyes still closed, place it with the pile of other chunks, and jumble them up again. When I go through the six chunks and select the one that my senses remember, I'm surprised how I selected the marked one. This is self-evidence validated, for me in this direct in-the-moment multisensory experience.
I learned that the gaining of permission to learn from a natural area allows a stillness and presence to take place within my nature---a harmonizing with the area. A whole congress of senses can be at work within and around me from an initial natural attraction sense. A hologram of senses, from one natural attraction love works to naturally educate me to think and live in harmony with nature in each moment.
I am a person who trusts natural sensory attractions as self-evident validations of natures language in and around me. My self-worth comes from my nature-connectedness and nature-essence education to live in harmony with Natural systems.
I made several attempts to stop using chemicals, all of them in an urban setting. I would often get wrapped up in making up for lost time. i would try to repair my credit, my financial situation, and somehow, have all the things i saw others having. I almost felt that being happy would come later. That most people just "bit the bullet" went thru their lives without being truly happy and just carried on. I had some glimpse of how natural attractions soothed me, but i felt these were getaways, for when things got too rough. I had no idea that the lack of these attractions was partly , maybe mostly responsible for the rough times.
I like this nature-connecting work I have been learning recently. I thought that there was something wrong with me because i could not get my life together in the city. Even when i was clean (the last year). I have never felt as content as I have the last 6 weeks. I now realize there was nothing wrong with me at all. The void in my soul was the lack of sensory attractions with nature. I was trying to fill this emptiness was euphoria from drugs, or with material success. How relieving to know I only had to look at a tree, sniff a flower, or just listen to the wind through the leaves, or the sound of birds. those things can be found anywhere and that gives me hope to know that this healing will not be transient.
