"I spent much of yesterday afternoon walking around the garden and the woods greeting my trees and bushes, noticing where the hedgehogs had been, following the old deer tracks until I felt comfortable back in my own environment. I asked my surroundings for permission to concentrate on them for this task.
The word that came to mind was "no name" and once I had become "non-verbal" I noticed a couple of strange phenomena. A butterfly came across my vision and landed on a leaf of the tree I was looking at but it seemed enormous much bigger than normal. It spread its wings wide on the broad leaf showing the brilliant colours on its wings the colours seemed luminous, bright and radiating as the butterfly soaked up the sun. It was almost as if I could stretch out my hand and pick it up. Then it moved and flew up above
I turned and started to walk to the house and the butterfly landed on a stone in front of me. I stepped closer and as I almost got up to it soared off again my eyes following it until it landed a few steps further ahead. It still seemed enormous and the colours floated above it rather than on it. I bent down, held out my hand next to it and it moved slightly so that its wings were touching the tips of my fingers delicate, quivering, pulsating against my fingers and at the same time the natural world seemed to move in around me, touching me, caressing me, caring for me, and I felt whole and complete. I waited for the butterfly to move but it stayed touching my fingers. Eventually I could keep myself in that position no more and had to stand up and straighten myself. The butterfly followed me to the door and then flew off and the natural world receded a little but I still felt cared for and loved.
Once connected with the natural world and pushing back language, everything seemed to flow naturally.
With no language the connection is very intense and deep.
When connected like this I can exist anywhere.I feel totally absorbed into "being with the natural world when I do not have to verbalise everything I see and do. It allows the day to day stress of living to totally disappear for seconds, minutes and possibly hours if I practised it often enough.
If I could not have this experience my chances of finding freedom in my mind and less stress in my body would be impossible. Finding this way of releasing body and spirit would be impossuble.
The chance that I am a human being, was born at this time. That I am able to see these things, learn these things, be with delightful colleagues on this course gives me an enormous feeling of self-worth. I do not doubt for a moment that I should not be here right at this time. It is meant to be."
My husband told me he believed that the butterfly was attracted to me because I was wearing an almost Barbie pink top!
Well, I told him I was attacted to things in nature often because of their colour or shape. If I can be attracted in such a way isn't the reverse true? Nature can find us attractive? And if a butterfly likes the colour I am wearing isn't that because it is attracted to it in just the same way I am attracted to the butterfy ..... colour .....?
And my self-worth is even higher because something in nature and I are attracted to each other and we share that nameless thing.... now THERE is something to think about.
