Being late in the day with the sun simmering on the edge of the horizon and the last glimmers of light fading into rosy purplish hues, I hesitated to complete this activity in the darkness, but then it occurred to me that the darkness shouldn't hinder me as I would be walking around with my eyes closed anyway!
I also had to do this activity alone though as I walked outside the door away from the concrete man managed area of my home I did not feel alone. There were presences felt, those of the tall centuries rooted into the earth,
I crossed the driveway to the path to my back yard. Before going any further I silently asked for permission to go further and acknowledged my blind condition to those beings that may lie ahead. I felt a draw to come forward, almost like a magnetic pull. Eyes closed in the darkness I stepped carefully down the hill. Noticing first the scent in the air, it's cool crispness chilling my cheeks and nose and the scent of moist ripe hay, the ground was soft beneath my feet.
I felt the sponginess of the earth as I stepped further down toward the back of the property on which I dwell. It was very silent aside from the echoing traffic noise in the distance. No birds, no cat meows, only the soft silent stepping of my feet, with an occasional shuffle of dry leaves.
Before going further I again sent my thoughts outward asking for permission and letting them all know what I was doing and why, I was invited to go further and felt again pulled strongly from my inner core toward the right. Drawn to this direction I opened my eyes a bit and closed them and went on, I kept feeling pulled the right side of my body felt heavier yet supported in its drawing. I ended up face to face with a tree, leaning my head against it, feeling the cool crunchy surface, dryness. I went away from it and felt again drawn back to it, I embraced it and stood half encompassed by it, as if having my arm draped around a lover, breast to breast. I stood there a few moments feeling as if the tree somehow wanted my attention and warmth. Willingly I gave it and this time didn't leave it until I sensed a release from it.
I was then drawn toward my left and when opening my eyes found myself in front of a sapling, maybe 4 or 5 years old yet taller than myself, gangly staring at me as if to say, here I am, learn from my youth. Ever growing upward, straight and tall, my branches reaching outward yet always upward, I am here. I acknowledged this young one and felt it's upstartishness. Also acknowledging this part of myself always reach upward and standing straight and tall in my progression at this point in my life, despite it's hardships.
