The Organic Spirit of Psyche and Mind
An Organic Psychology Report from a Missouri Course Participant
Please know that this class and all of you are very important to me and the daily thoughts of all of you and these activities are keeping me grounded in this very difficult transition period. Here are my responses to this activity.
Station One: Remembering that clean air is a gift, I try to remember that life itself is a gift and this adds a whole other layer which is not only is my birth precious but the air that sustains me as well.
Station Two: My breath is more noticeable after a rain, when the air feels and smells particularly clean and fresh. I believe that the crispness of it makes it more noticeable.
Station Three: I always find it amazing that we translated the word psyche to mean mind, when it actually means spirit. I am reminded of a Hawaian client I had who informed that in Hawaii the word for white people translates as one with no breath, or something similar to that. Today I worked with a client in the middle of a psychotic break, he told me he is happy about his situation as he has been reminded to just breathe and drink water, he is both afraid of and comforted by the interconnectedness he feels by just slowing down and breathing.
Station Four: So many of my practices; meditation and yoga draw attention to the breath, it seems that so many of our life problems are answered by connection into the breath, which is a way of connecting to the world around us. I have always viewed connecting to my breath as a way of connecting to myself, I see it now so much greater, as a way to connect to my world.
Station Five: Two things attract me, "you belong." It is so powerful to shift from you're included in this system to you belong. I also think about my mom and step-dad (both hospital workers) explaining to me that you're body will fight to keep you alive and how if you held your breath too long you would just faint and your body would start breathing, how nice to think of this as nature reconnecting me because it needs my breath and I belong as much as it's helping me to breathe for my own life.
Station Six: "Nature biologically and psychologically created good feelings to contact, connect with, and reward sensuous forms of life for heeding and fulfilling their natural attraction senses (webstrings).
Station Seven: I felt thankful that I was able to recognize the feeling of not breathing and to know when I needed to breathe again.
Station Eight: I do not seek or trust fulfilling experiences in nature nearly enough. Although I know logically that I will feel good if I go outside and join with nature I find myself staying in more often than I would like. I do not understand why this is. If I know something feels good and I have the experience that it feels good, why does something keep me from doing it?
Station Nine: I find myself feeling quite sad, perhaps because I do trust this, but I still wonder what keeps me from it.
Station Ten: The reminder that humans are part of nature too. So often we behave so outside of what seems to be in line with nature, it's hard for me to remember that we too are part of the natural system.
Station Eleven: Although I have frequently thought about the fact that our bodies have completely different cells every seven years, I have never before thought about the fact that these cells are coming from and returning to nature.
Station Twelve: That reason is a natural sense.
Station Thirteen: Every member knows that it is important.
Station Fourteen: I love to think about diversity strengthening the community.
Station Fifteen: The dance of living in society but while in touch with Natural Attractions is always a struggle for me. As much as I feel I live by my values and my connections, I frequently catch myself acting against my attractions for salary, grades and prestige.
Station Sixteen: I wanted to ignore the instructions at Station Four the first time around. I did not want to stop breathing, but I listened to the instructions instead of my attractions.
Station Seventeen: I am struck by the amount of trust in the world demonstrated in this program. Everywhere I turn people are asking for non-disclosure statements and protecting their ideas with their lives, trying to make sure they are well-paid for any thoughts, I have frequently been included in this. Yet, here is this amazing work and you say, take it, teach it. The relaxation and trust that I feel coming through so sincerely in this program is beautiful.
Station Eighteen: "Organic Psychology reconnecting lets nature help us recycle our destructive ways of thinking and relating.
Station Nineteen: I have been struck by this before in this class, the way that words are used i.e. flaky, tree hugger, etc to reduce the recognition of natural attractions.
Station Twenty: I am once again and remain very excited about this program. I feel safer entering the worlds I am entering because I now I have these reminders available to keep me grounded.
Station Twenty One: I love the idea of conspiring
Part Three: I felt the air on my skin, it felt soft, cool, crisp, alive, it made me tingle throughout my entire body. I can feel the air on the inside of my muscles, underneath my skin, in areas that the physical breeze cannot reach. I felt safe, accepted, again a sense of belonging. I recognized tension in my stomach, relaxation in my heart. I noticed irritation at sounds that brought me away from these feelings.

"Human behavior is rooted most deeply in nature's intentions and desire. The rhythms of nature underlie all of human interaction: religious traditions, economic systems, cultural and political organization. When these human forms betray the natural psychic pulse, people and societies get sick, nature is exploited and entire species are threatened."
-Stephen Aizenstat
In industrial society our excessively nature-separated lives mold us to betray the natural psychic pulse. We learn to block from our thinking over 95 percent of the wise sensory callings and fulfillments we normally receive from natural systems and their eons of experience. Our hurt and frustration from the severed disconnection of these senses underlies our greatest troubles.-Michael J. Cohen
Benefit from learning to repair the natural psychic pulse within and around us. Add the sensory ecoscience of Organic Psychology to your life and livelihood.
