An Organic Psychology Report from a Hawaii Course Participant
As I sensed the area I became aware that I was attracted to rock near the trees. The attraction lasted and I became more entranced with what it brougt out in me. I wrote "I love this rock because it is a world unto itself: its surface is diverse and fascinating, and the glimpses into the deeper parts of the rock hint of a myriad of rich inner crystal worlds. I love this rock because it is old, old, old, carrying stories in its very structure and composition. I love this rock because it looks like it has blood flowing through it - it looks like a human heart. I love this rock because it absorbs and then holds heat and coolness for a seemingly long time.
I was a bit dismayed when the activity instructions to apply what I said about the rock to myself. I wrote "I love myself because I am a world unto myself: my surface is diverse and fascinating, and the glimpses into the deeper parts of me hint of a myriad of rich inner crystal worlds. I love myself because I am old, old, old, carrying stories in my very structure and composition. I love myself because I look like I have blood flowing through me - I look like a human heart. I love myself because I absorb and then hold heat and coolness for a seemingly long time."
This exercise felt comfortable and familiar. I have long believed that we are attracted to that which resonates with us inside, that we love in that which is outside of us that which reflects the inside of us. Bringing this concept out like this, through a sensory nature attraction exercise is beautifully simple and effective.There are powerful emotions that come up when I read the words I had written about the rock in reference to myself. I feel humbled and unworthy. I also feel happy and grateful, calmly confident that I, too, am eternal.
I learned that we uncontrollably violate the world with the anger and frustration from our lack of natural fulfillment and wisdom and the subconscious hurt we feel and protect from further irritation. The natural system attractions inside me is what made me attracted to the rock, they resonate. We are suffering traumatic shock because of being disconnected to natural life. I think its very important that I refuse to let go of the knowledge of these natural system connections. I note that my sense of self-worth has grown; my warmth toward myself, my self-affection has grown, as well. This activity reeducated the part of me with which I am absolutely, unendingly fascinated! It centers around love and appreciation.
This assignment shows me in a personal way where the natural sensory attractions are that hold me to the rest of nature. I have been dreaming of water and rocks and having lots of adventures with them.

You say the tree reflecte to you "I love myself, because I am like a minature tree with graceful shapes. I love myself because I am, so attentive and alive."This is a strong moment in the program, for me, to read another participant's statement of self-love! It feels like a peak, like we just reached a summit together. Great job, Helen. You are graceful and attentive and alive. Although it is not traditional for you to view your athletic form as "graceful", I imagine you as supremely graceful as you flow with your horse. Comparing a willow tree to a burr oak, I'd say that they are built differently but are both graceful as they move. It's cool that you said you are not used to the word in reference to yourself so you will be "letting this in." Are there other ways in which you find you are like a miniature tree? You mentioned later that you felt you helped the little tree. It's obviously helped you.
