GWSG Public Relations Basics:
ECO 522 3 credits 135 hours

 

Identify your Sphere of Influence and make contacts with people in it.

Who do you know or are related to?
What contacts do you have in local or national organizations, where you work, with people or publications in the media?
Who do you know who has contacts or would be interested in PNC?
Who are your political representatives?
What local organizations or publications would respond to you because you are local?

Public Relations things to do:

Be sure to

  • coordinate what you are going to do with the GWSG public relations committee so that you do not repeat things that have already been done with media outlets.
  • report what you have done so that it will not be repeated
  • file things or ideas you develop with the PR Committee so others may learn from or use them.
  • keep abreast of updates and edits of materials via www.ecopsych.com/ecopublicity2.html and other forthcoming pages

Learn how to put up and maintain your own Web Page to be used for PR and other coursework. Place it in search engines. Register this page with GWSG

Get hold of a good book on Public Relations and follow through with appropriate ideas from it.

Whenever you receive or locate information about the wellness of people or the environment, email that person two things
1. Our interactive thank you note (obtain it from Mike or others who have it)
2. Our Psychological Responsibility letter (obtain it from Mike or others who have it)

Advertise, organize and teach the Orientation Course or other courses online.

Post notices and be active in other websites, discussion lists and bulletin boards including egroups. (Find an appropriate egroup or other group topic, go to its main page and ask the list manager to post a notice. Or you can join the group and post a notice, then quit the group if you want)

Develop Links at sites you visit or seek to be appropriate for links.

Write Letters to Editors regarding using NSTP to help solve ongoing problems. Make contacts with Media to get articles or notices published.

Contact teachers and teacher's unions and organizations, EE organizations, Outdoor and Nature groups/centers and other programs or events about the availability of courses and degrees.

Attend and present at conferences, operate a booth at a conference.

Write articles that get published in appropriate magazines.

Teach the Orientation Course as a Continuing Education course locally.

Help promote and distribute PNC books and include information about GWSG in them.

Write a Press Release and a book review and have it released about some aspect of PNC.

Organize an activity that will call attention to PNC.

Apply for Awards for PNC or Mike to get visibility and credibility

Be interviewed by a newspaper or radio/TV station about PNC or GWSG and your involvement in it.

Join an organization and become the PNC input source for that organization .

Organize an original, appropriate, promotional activity and carry it out to completion.

Prepare, outline and present a 10-15 minute motivational talk about the value of learning and teaching NSTP. Use the motivational sequence Attention-Need-Satisfaction-Visualization-Action.

Learn how to develop and write an application for grant to help carry out some aspect of NSTP by doing it. Locate and submit the grant to an appropriate foundation or agency.
