Waiver of Masters Degree

Graduate Webstring Support Group (GWSG)

From: Michael J. Cohen,
Lead Faculty, Applied Ecopsychology/Integrated Ecology
Greenwich University

Dear Inquirer,

Are you presently planning to attain a graduate degree by paying the high costs and inconvenience of classroom education. How twentieth century!

Here's something more exciting and appropriate:

Through the Orientation Course I note that quite a few of you now active in PNC are planning to enter a degree program at Greenwich University, or elsewhere, sooner or later. I have been in touch with Greenwich about your backgrounds as I know them. I find that many of you have had work and course experience that integrates with the Natural Systems Thinking Process and are therefore eligible for an equivilency education waiver of the Master's degree. If so, you may directly enter the Doctoral Program at Greenwich.

What I have discussed with Greenwich is putting together a Doctoral level mutual support education group that would go through the Ph.D program together and research and produce various means to best impliment PNC as their focus. Some of this group would sooner or later work with me in the Greenwich program and, part time, take over my work there, and here at PNC too, after all, I ain't gonna' last forever.

If the above is of interest to you and, even though you may not have a Masters, if you want to attain waivers and become part of this implimentation team, then please let me know.

For the M.S. waiver, we would have to:

1. Document that you have, or will write, a Master's level paper that integrates 1) your PNC work, 2) other courses and 3) life experience in some direction of your choice.

2. You have now, or will have within a semester or two, 30 units of appropriate graduate work or its equivelent. It may include PNC related Upper Division undergraduate courses and documented field and life experiences. trainings, etc

3. You can demonstrate that you, through the online courses, have a working knowledge of the webstring Natural Systems Thinking Process and want to become involved in implimenting it.

Hopefully we could start this program by this April, 1999 and twice yearly thereafter. Pleaseet me know, OK? It would require a minimum of a year with the Greenwich program, online, presently $3,000 and rising, and more depending upon how much time you would need and work you could transfer in. One line of research would be to explore funding and work study projects for those who need it for the program.

Be sure to read the Doctoral Prerequisite information below.

Descriptions of the degree programs at Greenwich are located at
http://www.rockisland.com/~process/

Please be aware of your opportunities described at http://www.ecopsych.com/ecoprestart and
http://www.webstrings.org/webstopportun.html . They may be of interest to you or to others you know who would like to come into the program. If so, please let them know, OK?

Graduate Webstring Support Group

The following is my updated draft proposal to create a Doctoral level support group of candidates who would cooperatively work together in the Ph.D program. The goal is for us to develop and used expertise to bring the Natural Systems Thinking Process and its Webstring model to the public in economically feasible ways for all concerned. This would be accomplished through distant learning research, fundraising and marketing, Project NatureConnect internships, and optional on-site workshops, conferences and courses.

There is extra knowledge and energy in a diverse but coordinated group process towards a common goal. What we may not be able to do individually, (such as fund raising for financial aid, making contacts in certain areas, or other goals), we might be able to do collectively. Let's see if connecting our webstrings to Earth, the public and each other can accomplish our individual and group goals as they develop.

People already holding a Master's Degrees or the equivilent are eligible for this program. Be sure to read the Prerequisite information below.

The Doctoral program is described at http://www.rockisland.com/~process/phd.html You will want to become familiar with it and its links along with the information below.

If you have a positive response to the five questions posed below, you should do fine with this program. Please acknowledge you intentions by using the application form that follows.

Stringcheers,

Dr. Michael J. Cohen, Lead Faculty
Greenwich University

Greenwich University Doctoral Program Prerequisites

Successful participants have extensive prior training and are proficient in Standard English (British or American) and computer literate, and for the duration of their program, maintain access to a computer, electronic mail and the Internet. As a prerequisite for acceptance to the Doctoral program, participants should have completed a recognized Masters degree (or a waiver, see below) in an appropriate field of study and have at least five years of progressively more responsible career related experience. On occasion, selected students are admitted to the Doctoral program lacking a few elements of preparation, when they are deemed highly likely to succeed in the program, due to the strength of their overall background. In the event that specific prerequisites are absent at the time of enrollment, participants will be required to add these as necessary elements to their program. Successful participants are proficient in Standard English (British or American) and computer literate, and for the duration of their program, maintain access to a computer, electronic mail and the Internet.

Greenwich University Master's Degree Waiver

If you are interested in this support group program and want to waive the Master's Degree requirement, please respond to the following five Greenwich University waiver requirements and the questions they raise:

Statement One:
Students who have superior preparation deemed equivalent with Masters level requirements may be allowed to enter directly to doctoral study.

QUESTION: In conjunctiuon with your professional and personal growth and experiences, do you think your Webstring experiences and interest in the Natural Systems Thinking Process has given you superior preparation to Master the field of Applied Ecopsychology / Integrated Ecology? ( I know that I think so, do you? )

Statement Two:
Master's equivilency is determined by the Deans based upon the doctoral program's minimum entry requirements, the expectations of program faculty, the strength and completeness of the student's documentation, professional and academic affidavits and the student narrative provided in support of prior training.

QUESTION: Are you willing in the near future to:

A. put time and energy into completing the Orientation Course, Introductory Course and Part One and Part Two Courses and co-facilitating at least two of them if you have not already done so?

B. put energy into documenting your previous growth and education in courses, training, and life experiences that increase your ability to become profecient in the field of Applied Ecopsychology / Integrated Ecology?

C. if necessary, take or complete a "survey of the literature" course that would satisfy reading requirements of the course that you may not yet have fulfilled?

Statement Three:

As a minimum standard for a waiver of the Masters requirement, the student's prior training should include a completed major work of research or a major project in lieu of research which is determined by the lead faculty to be equivalent to the master's final project requirement.

QUESTION: In the near future are you willing to write a paper summarizing your peak experiences and knowledge of sensory ecology on the following topic?

Your personal history, knowledge and learning experiences with respect to:

1. The deterioration of people and Planet Earth by means of webstring impairment.

2. Natural Systems Thinking Process methods that help repair webstring damage and restore integrity.

Statement Four:

Successful participants have extensive prior training and are proficient in Standard English (British or American) and computer literate, and for the duration of their program, maintain access to a computer, electronic mail and the Internet. They are required to add specific Doctoral prerequsites that are absent at the time of enrollment.

QUESTION: In the near future are you willing to meet the prerequsite requirements of the Greenwich University Doctoral Program stated above?

Statement Five:

I have discussed with Greenwich the creation a Doctoral level mutual support webstring education group that would go through the Ph.D program together to further research and produce excellence in implimenting the Natural Systems Thinking Process and bring it to the public.

QUESTION: Are you willing to participate in and supportively share your personal expertise and experience within the focus described in Statement Five above?

Greenwich University Waiver of Master's Requirement: Total Statement

Waiver of the Masters program is not recommended for students wanting to proceed to the doctoral program. However, students who have superior preparation deemed equivalent with Masters level requirements may be allowed to enter directly to doctoral study. Masters equivalency is determined by the Deans based upon the doctoral programís minimum entry requirements, the expectations of program faculty, the strength and completeness of the studentís documentation, professional and academic affidavits and the student narrative provided in support of prior training.

For a successful waiver, the student's prior training and preparation must satisfy all of the core competencies designated for master's level study. If any of the core studies are lacking, and the student is allowed to proceed with doctoral study, the student would need to add these prerequisites as required elements of the doctoral program. A minimum of 30 graduate credits in the discipline is highly desired. Official student transcripts and letters of reference are required. In addition, the student's professional background must include verifiable accomplishments equivalent with the field study requirements at the Masters level. Copies of the full resume and background affidavits are required. As a minimum standard for waiver of the Masters requirement, the student's prior training should include a completed major work of research or a major project in lieu of research which is determined by the lead faculty to be equivalent to the masterís final project requirement. A copy of the document or affidavits concerning the quality and effectiveness of the written work are required.

Greenwich University and Prior Learning Assessment:

Waivers are based on creditworthy elements of a student's background for which suffecient credible evidence exists of advanced level learning. Included are work experience, non-college training, continuing education, seminars and conferences, career experiences, personal achievements, employment licenses, equivalence credit through the military, continuing education, workshops etc. Prior courses taken as part of other graduate or undergraduate upper division degree programs anywhere are acceptable towards the waiver, or may be so upgraded.
