There is nothing quite like a gathering of NatureConnect folks.
Yes, the on-line courses and the 'connected' cyber communities
that have
formed as a result of communication on the PNC lists are supportive
and vital
to our common goal of learning and sharing the Natural Systems
Thinking
Process. But. Gathering in person and enjoying the
plethora of webloves
that can only be experienced face to face with kindred spirits
in nature
somehow fulfills and validates and inspires in ways that sharing
through a
computer screen simply cannot. This is a chance to really
live the Natural
Systems Thinking Process!
We hope you will be able to join us for one or more of these
PNC Gathering
sessions:
Orientation Course-- Led by Dr. Cohen,
this course provides an opportunity
to experience the basic concepts of The Natural Systems Thinking
Process.
Activities from Reconnecting With Nature will be done
at various beautiful
natural locations around the island. Wonderful for people
unfamiliar with
the basic concepts of the Natural Systems Thinking Process as
well as for
those who have taken the course on-line and could benefit from
an on-site
experience. $40.00
Advanced Training Session, Part 1 "Counseling
With Nature"
(pre-requisite: Orientation Course online
or above)
Participants, led by Dr. Cohen, will have the opportunity to
discover and
share ways that the healing psychological tools of Project NatureConnect
can
be utilized in therapeutic relationships. San Juan Island
will be the
'teacher." Bonus: Kurt and Gaia Davies will
also be sharing a counseling
program they have developed based on Dr. Cohen's work. For everyone--not
just
professional counselors and psychologists! $75.00
Advanced Training Session, 2: "Living the Natural
Systems Thinking Process"
or "Facing the Challenge Together." Once we have experienced
a conscious
awareness of our unity and interdependence with the rest of the
bio-community, how do we apply the lessons we learn from nature
into our
culture-bound lives? Dr. Cohen will help us explore this
topic together as
he takes us into nature to discover and define for ourselves
the basic
elements of the NSTP--demonstrating for us all the while through
word and
example how we, too, can live with 'ecointegrity.' $75.00
Lodging:
There is a range of accomodation options for every budget and
personal
preference. Many of us will be staying at the Wayfarers'
Rest Hostel in
Friday Harbor (find out more about it at www.rockisland.com/~wayfarersrest),
which will be our 'gathering place" for indoor meetings
and shared meals. The
cost will be $20 or less per night per person, depending on how
many of us
choose to stay there. There is a chance that the proprietors
will let us put
up an unobtrusive tent or two in their back yard, but we can't
overdo this
because they don't have a campsite permit. There is an
"unofficial" B & B
next door to the hostel (we're in the process of getting info
about this),
camping and cabins at Lakedale (www.lakedale.com), which is about
15 minutes
from Friday Harbor, and numerous
B&B's and motels to choose from in town
Food:
In the past, the general attracton at these gatherings has been
to take care
of our own breakfasts, have casual 'pot luck' lunches, and to
prepare evening
meals together (optional). There are grocery stores in
Friday Harbor, and
the Wayfarers' Rest has a lovely kitchen with plates, utensils,
etc., and
reserved refrigerator space for guests. There are also
several restaurants
in town to choose from-- if enjoying a prepared meal together
becomes a
mutual attraction.
Travel:
San Juan Island can be reached by plane (from Seattle) or ferry
(from
Anacortes or Bellingham). Here are some sites that may
be helpful:
