An Organic Psychology Report from a Course Participant
This was a strange result to my course activity.
I recalled an event at work some 6 years ago. It still upsets me a lot because I have not really become reconciled to it. I had burn-out as a result of it and it set me back a long way.
Many of my life decisions have stemmed from that time yet I still have had awful "think-backs to that time when I felt totally without power, helpless almost hatred. I went into the garden thinking about this and starting to get very emotional about it as I always do. I felt the humiliation again. I asked the garden if I could share its space and the whole perspective changed. I used the word "connection and the birch trees stood out in relief, the rest of the garden fading back and the word "dignity came through loud and clear. I could feel my posture change my shoulders went back, I stood up straight, my head went high and then I felt my head go even further back and I was looking up into a pure blue sky and seeing the tall dignity of the weeping birches with their falling cascades of branches. Dignity. Quiet dignity. And I felt enormous calm and reconciliation and the old problem faded because I realized that whatever had happened I was still myself, totally composed and with my own quiet dignity and really that was all that mattered as I stood in communion with my trees.
I realize that the activity helped me feel the strength of the trees and wished I had gone to them in the past when things were bad. I felt their natural wisdom flowing around me and the natural dignity of the standing people. I was totally absorbed and strengthened and felt I had insight beyond my years. I felt wonderfully happy. I wanted to laugh and sing with relief. I realize that if this were taken away I would have no way of measuring my emotions and getting them into proportion. My self-worth improved because I added to it the conscious feeling of my own dignity.
